    Today Jeremy came in. He goes back. You can tell.

    Hullo, he said.

    He didn’t look like he had too much of a social life.

    Bla bla bla bla bla. Jeremy had books for sale.

    Not much going on in the city.

    BLA BLA BLA BLA BLA. Jeremy walked in to a big English-language underground magazine and offered to sell the editor some photos.

    His photos are nice.

    The guy said, Jeremy… Jeremy… we can’t buy photos off you like this.

    We need something more contemporary (and you have to contact us online).

    Jeremy came back with something more contemporary.

    How did you get into the building? the editor asked.

    I hate you, Jeremy answered. Alone, British, anything-but-fashionable, Jeremy had calmly let the person know that he hated him.

    He finished his tea. Pocketed the blue bill he’d just made from what he’d gotten off his hands.
